Photo of our apartment building

We have returned from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was hot and muggy, but the alternative was rain in Portland. In Portland when it rains, there’s no escaping the wet. In Puerto Vallarta when it gets hot, there’s always the Pacific. And the margaritas…

We are here scoping out a place to spend next winter, after our European adventure. We hope to land here just about one year from now, in October 2013.

I have had my phone number for decades. I must be one of the few people who actually likes his cell phone service – so much so that I haven’t had a land line since the Reagan Administration.

Me sipping a frappé

That’s me sipping a frappé – a Greek iced coffee.

It was really hard to decide between the diples, kataifi, koulourakia, and melomakarona, which had the added problem of sounding like a disease, so we just left all the pastries alone.

The optimist claims his cup is “half full.” Usually. But today, this optimist says “half empty.” And it’s not a cup, it’s a bag.

Tom & Louise with champagne

We’re popping open the champagne tonight because we reserved another apartment today – this one in Chania, on Crete, in Greece, for the month of July, 2013. No, we’ve never been there.

What a moment in life!

That’s the kind of thing we said when our first child was born, or when we ate our first bite of Duck a l’Orange, or when we did our first hit of acid. (Forget I said that. I admit to misbehaving a bit, and listening to Hendrix, and living ten miles from Ken Kesey, but acid? No. Not acid. Not that I can recall…)

Frame from Heinz ketchup commercial

Remember that Carly Simon song, “Anticipation”? It was cleverly used in a Heinz ketchup commercial in the late 1970s. It has been running through my head lately.
