The Spanish visa

If we intend to stay in Spain for more than ninety days, we’ll need visas. My investigation began today with a visit to The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation website which, among other things, is charged with “promoting Spain’s economic, cultural and scientific relations.”

These are the people who will issue our visas and they’re interested in promoting a cultural (and economic) relationship with us. Cooperation! It’s right there in the title.

Slowly getting less panicky….

We’ve been tossing this ex-pat idea around for a few years. By which I mean living in another country for many months in a row, or maybe forever. Forever is too bewildering to tackle, but even the thought of a few months abroad used to make us panic a bit.

Why Girona?

We flew into and out of Barcelona last month, then took the train to our destination in France. Girona wasn’t even a blip on our radar – that is, until we saw it drift by the train window:

Our apartment lease is up March 31, 2013. We haven’t made a wet-our-pinkies-and-shake commitment yet, but we have begun research into becoming expatriates: living out of suitcases, borrowing lifestyles, and chasing dreams.
