Howard Beale (played by Peter Finch) in “Network.”

Like so many things, this blog has been on hold for twenty months. We all know why.

Well, no more. To paraphrase Howard Beale: “We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it any more!”

OK. Now that we have that off our chests, let’s talk.

We bought tickets to a Swiss rail adventure two years ago, and twice we’ve had to postpone that event. Twice we reserved Parisian apartments (and flights), and twice we’ve had to postpone those, too. While we were postponing, Notre Dame burned, another Supreme was appointed, Delta raged, and people said, “next year…” but next year never came. Travel is what little is left for us to stave off madness.

We’re going to healthier countries, each with a far better social conscience than ours. We’re vaccinated, tested, and papered up. We’re no threat to others, and others will be little threat to us. We’re not going to take it any more and we’re taking to the road: ten days in the Swiss Alps by train, and a month in Paris on the Left Bank overlooking Notre Dame.

If the airlines, or Switzerland, or France don’t change their minds.
