Every Saturday in Girona’s hundred-acre La Devesa Park, people gather amass to buy cheap clothing, hats, rugs, knick-knacks, fresh groceries (some living), and take pony rides. It’s a madhouse, but hey: it’s sunny, it’s inexpensive, and it’s Europe!

This market had yummy food, as expected, but the acres of clothes astounded us. From the looks of things, half the population of Spain shops for clothes exclusively at the Girona market. It ain’t high fashion, but it’s cheap!

Catalunya! Great place, but I do hope you guys know that they are much more in debt than other basket cases in the Eurozone and when they go down it will make Cyprus look like a bankrupt lemonade stand. Enjoy that wonderful province while you can.

Len’s point is well taken: Catalonia has an economy almost as big as Portugal’s and generates one fifth of Spanish gross domestic product.

I doubt the landlord would have approved. Of course, we could have liberated the poor things by buying them all and tossing them off the balcony. Fly away….

On this Saturday, a week after your post, I look out my window in Northern Canada and still see mountains of dirty snow. Oh to be in Spain where the sun shines so true!
